Viola Davis Celebrates 55th Birthday with Powerful Post

Viola Davis celebrated her 55th birthday with a powerful post shared to social media.

The How to Get Away With Murder actress shared a photo of the house she was born in more than five decades ago alongside a thoughtful caption.

“The above is the house where I was born August 11, 1965,” Davis wrote alongside a photo of it. “It is the birthplace of my story. Today on my 55th year of life….I own it….all of it.”

Viola Davis, who won an Oscar for Fences in 2017, also included a “Cherokee Birth Blessing” in her birthday post: “May you live long enough to know why you were born.”

The last time Davis was in the news, she spoke to Vanity Fair expressing regret over the acclaimed movie The Help, which she acted in 2011. Given the racial tensions in America right now, Davis said she felt like a traitor to her race.

During the interview, Davis also spoke about creating more space and giving opportunities to Black actresses in the film industry. “There’s not enough opportunities out there to bring that unknown, faceless Black actress to the ranks of the known. To pop her!” she said.
