'Lojiji'

Award-winning broadcast executive and filmmaker Temitope Duker returns to the screen with a gripping Yoruba-language drama, Lojiji which explores the delicate line between normalcy and chaos in the lives of everyday Nigerians. The story Lojiji is adapted from the short story title “Just Like a Flash” in Niran Adedokun Short Stories “The Law is an Ass.”

Set in a dense, low-income urban community, the film takes viewers through the unpredictable nature of life in the ghetto, where survival is a daily battle and how one moment can quickly rewrite destinies.

The film features a talented ensemble cast, including Peju Johnson, Oyinda Sanni, Dayo Amusa, Fuad Ferdinand, and Babaseun.

Duker and co-producer Adedokun, in the compelling drama, tells the story of several characters as they navigate their personal struggles, from finding stability to protecting their loved ones. Their lives seem predictable, until a sudden, shocking event disrupts their fragile balance.

The film also captures the tension and unpredictability of urban slum life with meticulous precision. Yet, amid the hardship, the film highlights traits of resilience, loyalty, and humanity that are often overlooked in mainstream portrayals of such communities.

Lojiji is currently streaming on ApataTV and has also earned a spot at the 22nd Abuja International Film Festival (AIFF), a notable recognition for any Nigerian production, particularly one rooted in indigenous language and culture.

The screening is a major moment for Duker, who has a long history with the festival and previously served as its Festival Director. Her return, this time as a filmmaker presenting her new work, highlights both her legacy in the Nigerian creative landscape.

“Lojiji” is emotional without being overly sentimental, gritty without exaggeration, and powerful in its simplicity. The film serves as a reminder that life can change “lojiji”, suddenly and that communities often become the true test of fate, loyalty, and survival.
