Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus, Afrobeats star better known as Joeboy, has shared his thoughts on why the genre has gained worldwide recognition.

In a recent interview with Zwart, Joeboy attributed Afrobeats’ global success to several factors, notably, the outgoing nature of Nigerians, the country’s large population, and the influence of the diaspora.

Afrobeats going global has been a long time coming,” he said. “There’s so much talent, so it’s only natural that we share it with the world. Nigeria’s huge population, both at home and abroad, played a big part in that.”

He added that Nigerians are naturally expressive and proud of their culture, which helps amplify the music wherever they are. “We’re loud — that’s what they say. And wherever we go, we love to represent. That energy, combined with social media and the quality of music coming out of Nigeria, really pushed Afrobeats to the world stage,” he explained.

Some months back, Adekunle Gold playfully mocked  Joeboy after he lost a ₦3 million bet on Real Madrid to beat Arsenal in their Champions League quarterfinal match.

Joeboy had shared a betting slip hours before the game, confidently backing Madrid to win, with the potential to earn ₦10.3 million.

He captioned the slip, “Cashing out on Arsenal tears tonight!”

However, Arsenal’s 3-0 victory resulted in Joeboy losing the bet, prompting Adekunle Gold to join in on the fun with a lighthearted tease.

Adekunle Gold reposted Joeboy’s tweet, jokingly saying, “Lmao. You don go blow stream money. Next  time face your club”.
