Why I Chose Music over Football -Laycon

BBNaija Lockdown winner, Laycon has revealed that he chose music over football despite the pressure he faced, due to his love for it.

In an interview with Olawunmi Oyedeji, a media personality, Laycon said although he was a talented footballer, but he had always knew music was the way.

“When I left the secondary school for the university, I knew it was music. There was a time I had to choose between music and football. But I went for music. I’m talking of around 2008, during that time Manchester United won the champions league and Mikel Obi was playing for Chelsea.

“My brothers would advise me to choose football because they knew how talented I was and the money involved. But instead of considering football due to their sentiment, I saw their choice for me as an encouragement to pursue music. With that sense, I was committed to making it work by all means,” Laycon told Oyedeji.

When asked if his parents welcomed his choice of career at first, Laycon said while his dad wanted him to be an engineer, his mom wanted him to be a lawyer.

It wasn’t like I just said music like that and threw it at them that way. It was gentle, but ultimately I knew they were going to give it a second thought.

“My parents were skeptical because … I just used the law my mom wanted me to study to escape. I was first in the science department but I didn’t enjoy learning, so I just told her I wanted to be a lawyer, not an engineer. She then came to my school and requested me to be moved to the art department. She had to go to the school because they didn’t want to allow me, they said I was doing well but I was just reading to pass.
