Popular singer, Abolore Akande who is also known asĀ 9ice has disclosed reasons why he has not signed other artistes on to his “Ancestor” record label.
According to him, it is because of the disagreement that comes with signing artistes.
Speaking with Hip TV, the veteran singer further revealed that he would rather engage talented singers, promote their brands in projects, and let them leave on their call.

āWhen veterans take up new artistes, thereās always issues like arguments which cause the artiste to leave, willingly or unwillingly. Thatās the reason why I never officially signed any artist,ā 9ice said.
āWhat I did with them was, āI have a label, come under this platform. If you have a song that I feel is good enough, I āll support you. Weāll shoot the video and get it promoted.ā I mean, do your thing!
āWhen you feel youāre ripe enough to stand alone, I let you go. Signing artistes takes a lot. They can claim their own right saying, āIāve been under this label for long and they āre doing nothing for me.ā
āBut, in the end, both parties have their wrongs, he continued.”The record label will tell you something like, āWeāve invested N40 million and havenāt even gotten back N30 million. And he said he wants to go.ā
āAnd the artsiete would defend himself saying āYou invested 40 million but we signed two years. Whether you make your N40 million or not, itās my time to go.ā So, both parties have their rights.
āSo, to avoid these issues, I think itās better one gets investors and record companies on a larger scale, that can invest money and spread it in the long term. So it wonāt be just from the music scales.
āMaybe also merchandise and all that but, if you donāt have enough funds, you canāt do all these. If youāre not making money from the record sales, you can tap into merchandise and other areas.ā
