Nigerian singer and global entertainer Yemi Alade has shared her thoughts on aging, revealing that she lost track of her age for years because she was “lost in the music” and immersed in her own world.
Alade during a recent Interview with media personality, Chude, noted that her she was so invested in her world that that she lost a sense of time.
“I kept saying I was 22 for three years, and when I realized I was 25, I took out my phone and did the math and I was depressed for a few days,” Yemi Alade shares with me on what it felt like to suddenly realize how much time had passed.

She continued saying, “My mind was also not taking into account that years was passing by, I was so invested and in my own world and was focusing on only the music. Every now and then, i’d travel to see my mom, but it was mental that for three years I didnt know my right age because I was lost in the source. But when that dawn on me, I was so short of words, I cried.”
Yemi Alade known as Africa biggest pop star burst onto the African pop music scene in 2014 with “Johnny,” a now-classic tune that gained acclaim by its iconic video featuring a TV news reporter tracking the titular womanizer. The video made her the first Nigerian female artist to hit 100 million views on YouTube.
Since then, Alade has had an illustrious career, collaborating with artists including Rick Ross, earning another 100 million-view video for “Oh My Gosh,” and featuring alongside fellow Africans Mr. Eazi and Tekno on the Beyoncé-curated soundtrack for The Lion King.
