Afrobeats sensation Asake has opened up about his decision to predominantly sing in Yoruba, his native language, despite being fluent in English.

In a recent quote shared by Album Talks on X, the chart-topping artist explained that his music is deeply personal, and Yoruba allows him to express himself more authentically.

“It’s not like I can’t communicate in English with people. I think I can actually talk to the whole world in English or probably sing to the whole world in English,” Asake said. “But, because my music is based on my own story and my own journey and the stuff that shapes me… I think I’m more comfortable to say it in Yoruba.”
Known for blending Fuji influences, street-hop, and Afrobeat, Asake has carved out a unique niche in the music industry. His choice to stick with Yoruba lyrics hasn’t hindered his global reach in fact, it’s helped him stand out. International fans often praise the emotional depth and rhythm of his songs, even when they don’t understand the language.

However, Asake proves that authenticity can also be a bridge to global success. His massive hits like “Sungba,” “Peace Be Unto You,” and “Amapiano” have not only topped Nigerian charts but also resonated with listeners across Europe and the U.S.
