Former Big Brother Naija housemate and Nollywood actress, Eriata Ese, has come out to clear the air on her recent statement about marriage.
Earlier in the week, the reality star had responded to a social media user who criticised her for showing off a baby bump without being married. In her response, Eriata had questioned the critic’s achievement with a marriage certificate and noted that marriage is “not a flex.” The comment quickly went viral, sparking reactions across different online platforms.

Following the backlash, Eriata took to her Instagram story to explain what she truly meant. She stated that her words had been misunderstood and insisted that she would never disregard the institution of marriage in a serious discussion.
According to her, she grew up in a loving home and fully understands the importance of family. She maintained that only someone with a negative view of life would say a good marriage is not something to be proud of.
Her statement read in part, “Please ignore bloggers. I would never say marriage is not a flex in a serious conversation. I grew up in a loving home and know how important family is. If you know and follow me, you’ll always see I have the tag ‘lover girl’ in some of my posts. I’m not trying to explain, I just want to correct the narrative that is being passed about me because I know how people believe anything they see on these blogs. Only a damaged person will say a good marriage is not a flex. I know how exciting it feels to be in a healthy relationship. It’s like a dream come true coming home to someone who doesn’t joke about you.”

Eriata went further to explain that her earlier post was simply a form of social media engagement. She said she enjoys cruising with her followers and creating lighthearted conversations on her page, but unfortunately, some of her words were taken out of context.
She wrote, “This is me only creating engagement on my post and cruising with my followers, which I always do, and a lot of people can attest to this. I mind my business and stay away from anything that will put me in the blog for any negative narrative, but it seems like it’s almost unavoidable. It is well.”
The actress stressed that she does not want to be associated with negative reports, but she understands that public figures are often misinterpreted online. She encouraged her fans to disregard the false narrative and focus on the positive side of her personality.
