Controversial Nigerian street-pop artist Portable has openly challenged British-Nigerian rapper Skepta over his recent comments regarding celebrity activism.
In a candid, unfiltered response that has quickly gone viral, the Zazuu Zeh singer explained the stark realities and physical dangers faced by public figures living in Nigeria, arguing that speaking out against the government could lead to immediate state retribution.

The debate sparked after Skepta publicly suggested that Nigerian celebrities should use their massive platforms more aggressively to demand accountability from the government.
However, Portable, known legally as Habeeb Olalomi Badmus, was quick to counter this narrative, highlighting the vast difference in safety between local artists and those living abroad.

He said, “Skepta is saying celebrities should speak, did he want Nigeria government to pick us? They will arrest us if we speak up
“We only need help. Nigerians in diaspora should speak up cause Nigerian government can’t arrest them. I’m only concerned about money,” Portable stated bluntly.”

The singer’s remarks follow long-standing tension within the Nigerian entertainment industry regarding political advocacy.
According to Portable, the mantle of protest should instead fall on Nigerians living overseas, who enjoy the protection of foreign jurisdictions.
He emphasised that the diaspora possesses a unique immunity, noting, “Nigerian government can’t arrest them.”
