Why Overprotecting Your Kids Causes Future Ruin—Patience Ozokwor Parenting Advice

Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwor, popularly known as Mama G, has shared her views on parenting and inheritance, warning parents against raising children with the belief that they should not experience the struggles their parents went through.

The award-winning actress stressed the importance of teaching children independence and encouraging them to work hard to build their own lives rather than depending entirely on their parents’ wealth and property.

According to Ozokwor, shielding children from every difficulty in life may not always prepare them for the future.

She explained that when parents are no longer alive, children who have become overly dependent on family property may eventually find themselves fighting over what was left behind.

She said: “The fastest way to ruin a child’s life is to say you don’t want them to suffer the way you did. When you’re gone, they may start fighting over your property.

She added: “I told my son, ‘My house isn’t yours, go and work for your own.’”

Rather than allowing her children to see her achievements and property as something automatically belonging to them, the actress believes they should be motivated to create their own success.

According to the actress, teaching children to become independent could reduce the mentality of waiting for property or wealth to be handed over to them.
