Media personality and entrepreneur Toke Makinwa has advised young people against rushing into marriage in their 20s, arguing that many people are still trying to understand themselves and figure out what they truly want at that stage of life.

Speaking during an episode of her podcast, Toke Moments with Tacha, the 41-year-old media personality said people should not feel pressured to settle down simply because they are in their 20s.

She said: “You have absolutely no business getting married in your 20s. You honestly don’t even know yourself. Ask those who did if they will be very honest with you.”

Reflecting on her own journey, Makinwa described her 30s as the most difficult period of her life, although she acknowledged that the decade played a major role in shaping her career and financial growth.

She said her experiences during that period helped her gain a clearer understanding of what she wanted for herself in her 40s.

She said: “There’s no point in rushing. It’s fantastic that we’re ageing with grace. I don’t want to go back to my 30s; they were the worst! I did not like my 30s.”

The entrepreneur and author also opened up about her romantic experiences, revealing that she spent most of her 20s in one long-term relationship.

According to her, she sometimes wished she had experienced more relationships before entering her 30s, when she began to feel freer to explore life and love.

She continued:“I spent my 20s with one person. I had one guy that gave me all the experience. I wish I had options. I’m not saying I wasn’t in relationships.”

She added: “I was locked into one relationship in my 20s, and in my 30s I felt free. I felt like love wasn’t exactly kind to me in my 30s, so I don’t want to go back there. I’m happy I didn’t have a child in my 30s.”
