The influencer reportedly made the statement on Friday after noticing a comment from a follower, boldly challenging Wizkid’s supporters to unfollow his own account until his numbers dropped to around 840,000 by noon. The provocative demand immediately drew attention across X and Instagram, with many users closely monitoring his follower count in anticipation of whether the fan group would respond.

However, screenshots circulating online later showed no significant change to his profile. Instead of dropping, his following remained at approximately 2.8 million and even climbed slightly to about 2.85 million, further fuelling mockery and heated exchanges online. Social media platforms were soon flooded with sarcastic reactions, with some users branding Wizkid FC a “ghost fanbase” incapable of mobilising effectively.

Several commentators pointed out that digital fan wars rarely translate into real-world influence or artistic success. The episode has once again highlighted the intensity of online fandom culture in Nigeria’s entertainment space, where influencers, artistes and their supporters frequently clash in highly public and competitive ways, keeping social media buzzing with debate and commentary.
