Popular Afrobeats singer, Wizkid, one of Afrobeats’ most celebrated global exports, is the subject of a new HBO documentary titled Music Box: Wizkid: Long Live Lagos.
Directed by Karam Gill and executive produced by renowned media figure Bill Simmons, the documentary is set to premiere on December 11 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and Max.

The film offers an intimate look at the life and meteoric rise of Ayodeji Balogun, known worldwide as Wizkid. From his humble beginnings on the streets of Lagos to headlining major international stages like London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the documentary captures his evolution into a cultural phenomenon.
It highlights how Wizkid played a key role in taking Afrobeats beyond Africa, with global hits such as Essence and high-profile collaborations with megastars like Drake and Beyoncé.

Long Live Lagos not only showcases Wizkid’s music career but also goes deep into his personal and professional journey his early challenges, his resilience, and the cultural bridge he builds between Nigeria and the UK.
