Nigerian singer Wizkid has come under heavy criticism after old tweets from 2010 resurfaced showing him expressing a crush on a girl he later discovered was just 14 years old.
One of the tweets read: “Damn!!!…dis girl is to00000000000 cuteeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!… bt she’s 14..crying…she looks 19!.crying”
In another tweet, he wrote:
“Show was funnn!!!!…..d cute 14 yr old babe was jst screaming..ahn ahn..plenty small girls jst dey shout..kai!!…lol.so girls like me?.lol” “Dis girl is too cute…I go bone age o…kai!!…”
The tweets have caused a stir on social media, however, while some fans argue that the singer was only 19 at the time and may not have fully understood the implications, others criticised the comments as inappropriate and reflective of the power imbalance between a rising star and a minor.

The singer, who was 19 at the time, have since deleted the tweets shortly after they began circulating again on social media.
The resurfacing tweets comes amid heightened scrutiny of past social media activity by public figures, following the recent controversy surrounding Paystack co-founder Ezra Olubi, whose old posts also resurfaced and triggered national outrage. Many social media users see this as part of a larger reckoning where celebrities are held accountable for things they posted online years ago.
