An X user and influencer identified as Samuel Adeyeye has been sentenced to two years in prison for spreading false information with malicious intent about Adekunle Gold and Simi’s daughter.
Adeyeye, known on X as @Swanky_concept, had shared a post last month insinuating that Deja, the daughter of singers Adekunle Gold and Simi, had died.
“My sincere condolences to the Adekunle family. RIP to Deja,” Samuel wrote on X.

According to reports, Adeyeye was arrested and arraigned in court, where he pleaded guilty to charges of cyberbullying and defamation on May 14.
He was subsequently sentenced to two years’ imprisonment on May 15.

Reacting to the development, many X users said the sentence would serve as a warning to those who spread misinformation and bully others online, while others argued that it sets a dangerous precedent.
One user wrote:
“This should be a wake-up call for others. Defamation is not just content or entertainment. There are legal consequences for spreading false information about people, whether for attention, clout, or engagement farming. Serves him right.”

Another user, however, disagreed with the sentencing, writing:
“Sorry, but I am not in support of this. Y’all are celebrating, and I understand, but this is setting a dangerous precedent, which we are already seeing from brands and politicians. You write a review and the brand doesn’t like it, they’ll have you arrested and charged with defamation and cyberbullying. You demand accountability from a politician online, and they’ll do the same thing.
“This should at best be a civil matter, not a criminal matter. Again, this is a slippery slope, and we should all be careful.”
