The award was accepted by his widow, Wunmi, who delivered a heartfelt speech that resonated deeply with the audience and online viewers.

The emotional moment was met with an unexpected reaction from Odahohwo Joseph Efe, aka Carter Efe. In a video that has since gone viral, Carter Efe expressed his disappointment and skepticism over the decision to award Mohbad posthumously.
In his words: “Why una dey misbehave, why Headies dey misbehave now, you go dey nominate Mohbad, you go dey nominate Mohbad, wetin make them nominate Mohbad. No tell me wetin make them nominate Mohbad. Best Street-Hop artist, ‘Ask about me’.
