21-Year-Old Nigerian Footballer Dies of Alleged Food Poisoning Following Recent Visit to Abuja

A 21-year-old Nigerian footballer Victor Akaniyene Udoh, has died of alleged food poisoning following his recent visit to Abuja.

According to reports gathered by eelive.ng, the Nigerian football star, Udoh, died of food poisoning after an outing with his friends in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria.

According to reports by BSNSports.com.ng, the former Royal Antwerp forward fell critically ill and was rushed to the hospital, where he sadly lost the battle for his life.

Udoh, born on October 18, 2004, in Akwa Ibom State, rose through the ranks after moving from Nigeria to Belgium in 2023. He impressed in Royal Antwerp’s youth setup with his performances and goals, eventually earning a first-team debut.

The promising striker also had spells with Southampton FC in England and the Czech side SK Dynamo České Budějovice.

Early reports claim the young footballer had gone out with friends the night before his death and was later found unresponsive the following morning. While suspicions point to food or drink poisoning, authorities have yet to confirm the exact cause of death officially.

Equally, Udoh was a Nigerian professional footballer who played as a forward. Udoh was a product of the Royal Antwerp academy and made his senior debut for the club during the 2023–24 season. In February 2025, he joined English club Southampton.
