Nollywood actress Didi Ekanem has openly challenged media personality Toke Makinwa’s views on financial dynamics in romantic relationships, sparking fresh conversations about gender roles and support between partners.
In a detailed Instagram post, Ekanem expressed love and respect for Makinwa while firmly disagreeing with her recent podcast revelations.

Makinwa had stated that no man has ever asked her for money and that she considers it a deal breaker if a partner ever does. She also claimed that even if she dated a man earning ₦5,000, he would give her at least ₦3,000.

“I love you Toke but I beg to disagree with you that no man has ever asked you for money, and that you haven’t given a man money before,” Ekanem wrote. She argued that there is hardly any woman in a loving relationship who wouldn’t support the man she loves if he genuinely needs financial help.

According to Ekanem, the only women who refuse such support are those who have been “bitten once and she is now twice shy.” She added that she knows for a fact that Makinwa would never present her own problems to a man she is interested in from the beginning.
“Even though I know that’s a rage bait but yea … couldn’t disagree in silence,” she concluded.
The actress’s reaction comes after Makinwa reflected on her podcast Toke Moments, where she wondered why men never ask her for financial assistance and maintained that any such request would immediately end the relationship.
