Nollywood actor Adeniyi Johnson has stirred reactions online after publicly calling out fellow actor Lateef Adedimeji for a celebrity boxing showdown.
The actor appealed to organisers and sponsors of celebrity exhibition fights to arrange a match between himself and Lateef, boldly promising fans an unforgettable experience and value for their money if the fight eventually happens.
“I feel like looking for trouble today and this week!! All those people sponsoring boxing exhibition matches, this is for you!!
“Can any of you organise a fight between Baba Ibeji and Baba Ibeta? My guy and I will give you value for your money and a lifetime experience. Fans and family, how Una see am. I AND MY GUY ARE CAPABLE!!! @adedimejilateef @sososoberekon how far bro???!!!”. He wrote on his official Instagram account.
Interestingly, the challenge is coming only days after Adeniyi visited Lateef and his wife, Adebimpe Oyebade, following reports of the birth of their triplets. Sharing cheerful moments from the visit, Adeniyi praised the newborns, describing them as adorable like their father, while joking that Bimpe looked strong enough for another pregnancy.
The celebrity boxing trend has continued to gain massive attention in Nigeria’s entertainment scene. Recently, eelive.ng reported that actress Iyabo Ojo also
challenged her longtime rival, Lizzy Anjorin, to a boxing match. Iyabo called on businessman Emeka Okonkwo and music executive Soso Soberekon to sponsor the proposed fight.
Lizzy later accepted the challenge while throwing shades at Iyabo, describing her as a failed actress with no achievements.
The growing interest in celebrity boxing intensified after skitmaker Carter Efe defeated singer Portable in a high-profile match held in Lagos. Carter reportedly walked away with a N50 million reward from E-Money, along with other benefits, including a German visa.
Following the defeat, a leaked audio surfaced online in which Portable reportedly begged for another celebrity fight scheduled for October, admitting defeat and expressing his desire for a comeback.
