What makes an award show truly memorable is not just who wins the trophies, but who wins the red carpet. The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards has become one of the biggest fashion stages on the continent, where celebrities and designers come together to create unforgettable moments.

The 12th edition of the AMVCA was no exception. Beyond the awards and performances, the event evolved into a full-scale fashion exhibition in which African designers pushed the boundaries of couture, craftsmanship, architecture, and storytelling.

This year’s ceremony gave celebrities another opportunity to prove that they are not only talented actors and entertainers but also fashion stars in their own right. From cathedral-inspired creations to aquatic fantasies and avant-garde menswear, the red carpet delivered one spectacular look after another.

I found myself scrolling endlessly through photos and videos, trying to keep up with who was wearing what and, more importantly, the creative minds behind these masterpieces.

If you admired the outfits but missed the details behind them, I have done the heavy lifting for you. Here are my top ten standout fashion moments from the AMVCA 2026 red carpet.

1. Osas Ighodaro

Osas delivered two major fashion moments, but it was her sculptural crimson-red gown that stole my heart.

The gown featured:

  • A dramatically structured high collar
  • Crystal-edged horizontal bands
  • A sleek column silhouette
  • Futuristic royal-inspired detailing

Designer: Veekee James

The result was a powerful look that balanced elegance with innovation. It felt regal, modern, and completely unforgettable.

2. Nana Akua Addo

If fashion is art, then Nana Akua Addo arrived as a masterpiece.

Her now-viral spiral aquatic dress featured:

  • Fin-like extensions
  • A fish-shaped beaded handbag

The look blended fantasy couture with marine symbolism and quickly became one of the most talked-about outfits of the evening.

3. Mercy Eke

The entire look felt dreamy, theatrical, and straight out of a fantasy film. Whether you loved it or questioned it, you simply could not ignore it.

4. Lyla Lawrence Eze

I may be slightly biased toward white ensembles, but this look was impossible to overlook.

Lyla’s gown featured:

  • Sculpted bodice construction

  • Layered textures
  • Soft, feminine styling

The overall effect was ethereal and romantic. It felt like something from another dimension, proving that softness can still command attention on a red carpet.

5. Chimezie Imo

Here is my first male entry, and he delivered on every level. I absolutely loved the way the velvet-and-silk ensemble came together.

The collar details subtly echoed the inner shirt, creating a refined and effortless finish. And can we talk about that colour? It was simply breathtaking, rich, elegant, and undeniably striking.

Chimezie’s look perfectly captured the growing confidence and sophistication of African menswear.

Unlike previous years, where menswear often played it safe, Chimezie’s outfit demonstrated that male celebrities can take fashion risks and remain sophisticated.

Idia Aisien once again proved why she remains one of Nigeria’s most consistent red-carpet stars.

Her silver-toned clock gown with a beautiful silhouette was to die for. It was absolutely detailed with the different watch faces arranged neatly to mold closely to her body.

The look successfully combined old Hollywood glamour with futuristic couture, creating a striking balance between softness and strength.

His ensemble embraced:

His appearance highlighted how African men are increasingly embracing colour, texture, and creative expression on the red carpet.

Final Thoughts

The AMVCA continues to demonstrate the incredible depth of African fashion talent. Every year, designers raise the bar higher, proving that African creativity can stand comfortably alongside the world’s most celebrated fashion stages.

What struck me most this year was the level of craftsmanship. The structure, detailing, construction, and storytelling behind these garments rivalled anything seen on international red carpets.

Coming just days after the Met Gala, AMVCA 2026 reminded us that African celebrities and designers are not here to follow global fashion conversations. They are helping to shape them.

If this year’s red carpet is anything to go by, African fashion is not merely participating on the global stage. It is commanding attention, setting trends, and proving that the continent has everything it needs to compete at the very highest level.
