Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested a 36-year-old woman in Onitsha following information gathered through open-source intelligence about a disturbing video allegedly involving the sexual abuse of a minor.
The police said the arrest was made on the evening of September 10, 2026, during an operation that also led to the rescue of four children aged two, three, six and nine.
Sex toys and other items believed to be relevant to the investigation were also recovered from the scene.
The Command said investigations are still at an early stage as officers work to establish what happened and determine whether other people may have been involved.
The woman’s husband has also been taken in for questioning as part of the investigation.
The police said: “The suspect is currently in police custody as the Command intensifies its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence and the possible involvement of other persons.”
The police added:“The husband of the suspect is also undergoing interrogation to determine whether he has any connection with the alleged offence.”
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Ama, psc, expressed concern over the allegations, stressing that children are particularly vulnerable and must be protected from exploitation.
He directed the officers to carry out a thorough investigation while ensuring that the rescued children receive immediate protection and necessary welfare support.
The Command said the wellbeing of the children remains its foremost concern, stressing that their safety and dignity would not be compromised during the investigation.

It stated: “To this end, the Command notes that beyond the investigation and prosecution, its priority is the safety, dignity and wellbeing of the rescued children“.
“The Command will work with the appropriate child-protection and relevant support agencies to ensure that the victims receive the necessary care, protection, counselling and other support required for their recovery.”
It added: “Their identities and privacy will be protected throughout the process, and they will be treated with compassion and sensitivity.”

However, the police also commended vigilante operatives, bloggers and residents whose information helped investigators track down the suspect and rescue the children.
The Command said the investigation would continue as officers work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged offence.
