Four questions to ask yourself before you buy a piece of art

Art is changing but more particularly, social media is changing how people have access to art. Many artists who did not have backing or access to galleries have gained from social media because they can now meet their consumers directly.

In case you have had access to an artist whose work you really admire and might even want to purchase, these are 4 questions you need to ask yourself before making the final step.

How does this piece make me feel?

Do you like it? Do you love it? Do you hate it? Does it make you feel nostalgic? Whatever it is that it makes you feel; is it a feeling that you want to experience regularly? When you buy that piece, you will be buying those feelings as well and you don’t want to be stuck with something that you are uncomfortable with.

What is it I like about the piece? Is it the colors, the shapes, the subject matter?

It’s good to know exactly what you like about a piece you plan to acquire especially if you will be creating a collection. Tracking what you like about each piece of art will help you identify easily, what you want when you see attractive pieces that you might want to acquire.

Do I like it because I don’t know why I like it?

There is nothing wrong with not knowing what exactly you like in a piece. Some of works of art serve to create a progression of feelings in its observer.

Do I know where I will place it and will it flow well with the energy in that room?

This is probably the most logical question of this group, knowing where you want your new piece of art to live once you buy it is very important and ties back to how it makes you feel and how much you like it.
