Bassey Ikpi’s collection of essays; “I’m Telling The Truth, But I’m Lying” published by Harper Collins is due out in August, 2019.

This collection of essays explores Bassey’s life as a Nigerian-American immigrant, her childhood in Nigeria through her adolescence in Oklahoma, her tumultuous years, cycling between extreme euphoria and deep depression. Her mental health deteriorates, she was hospitalized and subsequently diagnosed of bipolar II. Bassey shares some very intimate things in this collection of essays, and she does so, sincerely.

Bassey Ikpi is a Nigerian-American spoken word poet, and mental health advocate. She has appeared on HBO’s “Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry” five times, and her poetry has opened shows for Grammy Award winning artists. Her poetry has featured in “Rookie on Love,” as well as, “Who Will Speak for America?”
