Beyoncé To Release “Lion King” Inspired Album Featuring African Artistes & Producers

The past few months have been filled with anticipation for the release of the live-action remake of the Disney classic, “The Lion King”. The combination of its incredible cast line-up; including Donald Glover, Beyoncé and Chiwetel Ejiofor, and the thought-provoking teasers has not helped quell mass anxiety either.

To top it all up, Disney recently announced that Beyoncé has executively produced an album inspired by the film titled “The Lion King: The Gift”, on which she has enlists a number of African artistes and producers.

Following that exciting announcement, the award-winning singer dropped a track off the project, “Spirit”, also featured in the film, during a pivotal scene involving Beyoncé’s character, Nala.

“This is sonic cinema, a new experience of storytelling. I wanted to do more than find a collection of songs that were inspired by the film. It is a mixture of genres and collaboration that isn’t one sound. It is influenced by everything from r&b, pop, hip-hop and afrobeat,” Beyoncé said, commenting on what the album means to her.

She also revealed that all music on the project has been worked on by the most interesting and talented artistes, and produced by the best African producers, in order to maintain authenticity in the storytelling.
“The Lion King: The Gift” is due for release on July 19.
