Nollywood actress Blessing Nze Obasi has spoken about the backlash she received from some Christians after playing a lesbian inmate in the second season of Blood Sisters.
In a recent interview with Yanga FM, the actress explained that many critics struggled to separate her on-screen character from her real-life beliefs and values.

Obasi stressed that acting is about portraying different characters and telling diverse stories, not reflecting an actor’s personal lifestyle.
According to her, the role was inspired by realities that exist in society, particularly within prison settings, and was never intended to promote same-sex relationships.
She noted that the storyline was drawn from real-life situations and was included to add authenticity to the narrative.
The actress maintained that the production’s goal was simply to tell a compelling story based on experiences that occur in certain environments, rather than advocate for any particular lifestyle.

She said: “We are telling a real story about things that truly happen. The Christians came for me and attacked. They said ‘as a child of God how would i take such role’ and i said ‘we are telling real stories of what happens in the prison.
She continued: “However the production company was sensitive enough not to depict the horridness of it. They are not in support of it (lesbianism) but they are telling the story. There is so much positivity. I put my mind on that.”
Despite the criticism, Obasi believes audiences should understand the difference between an actor’s profession and their personal convictions.
