Cloris Leachman, Oscar and Emmy Winning Actress, is Dead

Oscar winner and multiple Emmy winner, Cloris Leachman, renowned for her outstanding performance in The Last Picture Show and Young Frankenstein, has died at the age of 94. 

She died in her sleep of natural causes at her home in Encinitas, California.

Her longtime manager, Juliet Green who confirmed the news paid an emotional tribute to the movie-star.

“It’s been my privilege to work with Cloris Leachman, one of the most fearless actresses of our time,” Green said in a statement.

“There was no one like Cloris. With a single look she had the ability to break your heart or make you laugh ’till the tears ran down your face. You never knew what Cloris was going to say or do and that unpredictable quality was part of her unparalleled magic.”

Cloris Leachman shot into the limelight as Miss Chicago in the Miss America Pageant, and later ventured into movies.

She became a household name in the ’70s when she won two Emmys for her role the flamboyantly overbearing landlady Phyllis Lindstrom on the 1970s CBS sitcom.

Leachman also won a supporting actress Oscar in the early part of the decade for The Last Picture Show.

The actress won a total of eight primetime Emmys, both for drama and comedy, and one daytime Emmy.

She was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame in 2011.
