Comedian, Omopatakii Indicts Olamide Over Copyright Theft

Social media comedian Yinusa Sodiq Oriyomi better known as Omopatakii has indicted Nigerian rapper Olamide of copyright theft and is demanding N50M damages.

Omopatakii alleged Olamide stole the lines in Won Ma from an Instagram skit titled Won Ma Do, the song he created and released on August 17, 2019.

According to the comedian, he said his skit which has the catchphrases; a woman cannot be satisfied “o le te obirin lorun”; and regardless of what you do for a woman, she will be slept with “won ma do” are his creative concepts.

Further accusing Olamide of stealing the work, he stated the skit went viral on all social media platforms; and Wonma the fifth track of Olamide’s 999 released in February was from his 2019 skit.

AK & CO, the legal representatives for Omopatakii informed Olamide that the Nigerian Copyright Act protects their client’s rights. They further emphasized Olamide’s continuous unauthorized use of the work is a breach of Omopatakii’s copyright and intellectual property rights.

Therefore, the lawyers have claimed N50 million damages from the CEO of YBNL Nation; also asking that he stopped using that work.

They further said they would pursue legal and other means in enforcing the comedian’s rights if Olamide fails to respond.
