COVID-19: Take Giveaway Gestures off Social Media- Patoranking Tells Colleagues

Patrick Okorie, Nigerian singer better known as Patoranking, has advised his colleagues, and other celebrities to take their “giveaway’ gestures off the social media platforms and reach-out directly to indigent Nigerians.

The singer made the call in a tweet he shared on Wednesday. He added that the needy who do not have social media accounts were the most disadvantaged people amid the Coronavirus pandemic.

He believes that people who are on the streets are the ones with the real problems; when it comes to surviving and not the ones majorly on social media. Patoranking that he has been in such position before and understand what “giveaway means.” He wrote:

“Instead make we artist come together and contribute money to support people, Those once wey no Dey online Oo.

“Wey understand wetin giveaway mean (people for slums and ghetto) wey Dey disadvantaged due to this Covid-19 Lockdown. Una Dey here Dey talk about this Vs This, Wise up.”

Many Nigerian celebrities have been donating relief materials to ease the economic burden created by coronavirus. It includes giveaways in form of money, data and foodstuffs amid the lockdown.

In the past few days, some celebrities who have been involved in the social media giveaways spree included Adekunle Gold, Toyin Abraham, Yemi Alade, Don Jazzy and Runtown, among others.
