Dafe Oboro Directs New Fashion Film, “A Beautiful Struggle”
Nigerian filmmaker, Dafe Oboro, in collaboration with fabric merchants Vlisco & Co delivers an experimental new fashion film titled; “A Beautiful Struggle”. The film is a vivid and stimulating concept centred around fashion and music, featuring designs by Papa Oyeyemi and Abiola Olusola.
“A Beautiful Struggle” is a portrait showing what the Lagos hustle looks like and the beauty in the midst of it (all from Oboro’s perspective). It follows the story of Smart-Song, an aspiring musician from a small town who lands in psychedelic Lagos to follow his passion and attain stardom.
Commenting on the project, A Vlisco rep shared; “With the explosion of young Nigerian designers and creatives in the global fashion industry, and Nigeria as a central point for major fashion trends and influence, it’s no surprise that this year’s theme for Vlisco & Co focuses on the city of Lagos as a key fashion influence and centre of the film.”
Vlisco shows the beauty of the Lagos grind as it continues to lend African creatives a platform to tell their unique stories while incorporating designs using vibrant wax prints.
