Nollywood actor and filmmaker Yul Edochie has shared advice for his fellow African men about the now-accepted culture of marriage proposals.
In a post on his Facebook page, the actor advised men not to kneel while proposing to their partners, describing the practice as a foreign cultural influence.
According to him, kneeling to propose is not aligned with African traditions and should not be adopted.
Edochie urged men to maintain a sense of pride and self-worth when expressing their intentions for marriage. He emphasised that proposals should be done standing, which he believes reflects confidence and cultural identity.

“Dear African man, never kneel to propose marriage to a woman. That’s a very foolish Oyibo culture. Stand proudly like a true African man who knows his worth and propose to her,” he wrote.
The actor further stated that, in his opinion, women are more attracted to men who demonstrate confidence and understand their value.
His remarks have since generated reactions online, with a large percentage of users mocking him for his advice

Throwing another jab at the actor, another user said: “Na boys dey use ring, men uses pregnancy to propose. If you know, you know!”
