Dr Dre scores major victory against wife in divorce settlement

American Rapper, Andre Romelle Young, better known as Dr Dre, has been ordered by a Los Angeles Superior Court Judge to pay his estranged wife, Nicole Young, $293,306 monthly in spousal support.

This sum is payable on the first of each month and will commence on August 1, 2021. Dr Dre will cease to pay this sum monthly only if Young “remarries or enters into a new domestic partnership, death of either party,” the court documents supplied.

The rapper is the brain behind internationally acclaimed headphones ‘Beats by Dre’ and this is a major victory for the music mogul despite the fact that the divorce case still rages on. Young had previously demanded $1,936,399 in monthly spousal support and attorney’s fees that added up to $5 million.

According to Radaronline.com, this decision is a temporary one and will cease to stand when the court makes a final decision.

Nicole Young’s attorney Samantha Spector also arranged for Dre to cover Young’s health insurance and also “continue paying the expenses for the Malibu, and Pacific Palisades homes”.

However, they are still fighting over their prenup. In the petition, Young said they signed a prenup before they got married but claimed Dre tore it some years into their marriage. Dre denied these accusations and is demanding the agreement of the prenup be enforced as part of their divorce.

Young and Dre currently remain undecided about the overall settlement of their divorce. These monthly payments are liable to cease once the couple agreed on final divorce settlement.

Young filed for divorce from the foremost entrepreneur in June 2020, citing irreconcilable differences as her major reason. Since then, their divorce proceedings have been difficult and messy.

The major cause for argument between the couple was a prenuptial agreement allegedly signed by Young since as far back as 1996. Young stands on the accusation that Dr. Dre ripped it up one night as some type of romantic gesture, rendering it null and void.

Young and Dre got married in May 1996 and in June 2020, Young filed for divorce from Dre. The union produced two children.

Surely the courts will require some sort of proof that the agreement was rescinded. I’m not a lawyer, but don’t you need to file some sort of document with family court to cancel a prenup? Wouldn’t there be signatures on a new document stating the prenup is null and void. It could as simple as notary public and a witness stating the prenup “blah blah blah is null”.
