Veteran Nollywood actor Emeka Ike has strongly condemned Lere Olayinka, media aide to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, accusing him of unlawfully exposing his private voter information.
In a recent statement, Ike declared that Olayinka had no right to violate his privacy and expressed readiness to take him on over the matter. The controversy erupted after Olayinka shared screenshots of Ike’s voter registration details shortly after the actor announced his intention to contest for a House of Representatives seat in the FCT.
According to reports, the leaked information, which included sensitive details such as Ike’s Voter Identification Number (VIN), application number, registration centre, and profile photo, appeared to have been sourced from INEC’s restricted administrative portal, a backend system not accessible to the general public.
The action has drawn widespread criticism, with many Nigerians raising concerns about data privacy, electoral integrity, and possible unauthorised access to the country’s voter database ahead of the 2027 elections. Prominent voices, including journalist Reuben Abati, have called for a thorough investigation into how Olayinka obtained the information.
As of now, neither INEC nor the FCT Minister’s office has issued an official statement addressing the alleged breach. Ike maintains he will not let the matter slide.
