Former adult film actress and ex-journalist Deyci Alejandra Omaña Ortiz, widely known by her stage name Amaranta Hank, has officially taken her seat in Colombia’s Senate after campaigning on a platform focused on the rights and protections of adult-content creators.
The 33-year-old was sworn in as a senator representing the left-wing Historic Pact coalition in Bogotá after securing victory in the Norte de Santander region during the March elections. Her election has attracted widespread international attention because of her unconventional career path and advocacy.

Before entering politics, Ortiz worked as a journalist before joining the adult entertainment industry in 2017. She later left the profession and shifted her focus to public service, saying her experiences exposed her to inequality and the lack of legal protection for many workers.
Now serving in the Senate, Ortiz says she intends to push for legislation that guarantees social security benefits, labour protections, and safeguards against exploitation for adult-content creators. She argues that those in the industry deserve the same legal rights as workers in other professions.
Responding to critics who questioned her candidacy, Ortiz maintained that a person’s past career should not determine their ability to serve in public office. She added that her life experiences have prepared her to contribute meaningfully to national debates on workers’ rights, equality, and social justice in Colombia.
