Nigerian Afrobeats stars Wizkid, Asake, Tems and Burna Boy have secured nominations for the 2026 Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards.
The prestigious American awards show, established in 2001 by Black Entertainment Television, celebrates outstanding achievements by Black entertainers across music, sports, television and film.
Wizkid and Asake made history as the first contemporary African artists to earn a BET nomination for a collaborative project, with their 2026 joint EP, REAL Vol. 1, nominated in the ‘Best Group’ category.
The duo will compete against an elite lineup of American and British acts, including Clipse, FLO, De La Soul, Terrace Martin & Kenyon Dixon, Metro Boomin & DJ Spinz, French Montana & Max B, and Nas & DJ Premier.
Tems earned three nominations ‘Best Female R&B/Pop Artist’, ‘BET Her Award’ and ‘Viewers’ Choice Award’.
Burna Boy also received a nomination in the ‘Best Collaboration’ category for his feature on Gunna’s track, WGFT.
American rapper Cardi B leads this year’s nominations with six nods, followed by Kendrick Lamar and Mariah the Scientist with five nominations each. Doechii, Doja Cat, Clipse, Teyana Taylor, Olivia Dean and Latto secured four nominations apiece.
The 2026 BET Awards will air live on June 28 on BET and will also be simulcast on BET HER, CMT, LOGO, MTV, MTV2, Nickelodeon, Paramount, POP, VH1, Comedy Central and TV Land.
