Nigerian singer and songwriter Damilola Afolabi, popularly known as L.A.X, has come out in strong defence of his longtime friend and former label boss, Wizkid, amid the Afrobeats superstar’s increased social media activity and direct responses to critics.

In a recent interview with Chude and a widely circulated clip, L.A.X explained Wizkid’s current stance, saying: “He has kept quiet for so long, and people still be taking a piss, and that’s why you see him responding now.”

The comments come as Wizkid has been more vocal online in 2026, clashing with perceived disrespect, industry jabs, and personal attacks. Fans and observers have noted his shift from relative restraint to more frequent and unfiltered responses.

L.A.X, who rose to fame under Wizkid’s Starboy imprint with hits like “Caro,” maintains a close brotherly relationship with the “Essence” hitmaker even after leaving the label. The two have continued to support each other publicly, with Wizkid recently visiting L.A.X’s mother in a widely praised gesture.

While some fans applaud Wizkid for no longer staying silent, others believe his outbursts sometimes fuel unnecessary drama.

L.A.X’s statement has sparked mixed reactions online, with many appreciating the context behind Wizkid’s recent behaviour.
