I Am Ready To Transform DGN- Yinka Akanbi
Nigerian actor and filmmaker, Yinka Akanbi, has revealed his plans for the Directors Guild of Nigeria(DGN) if elected president.
The charismatic actor, in a chat with Punch disclosed that he is ready to re-engineer the guild so as to catch up with the dynamism of the present state of the world.
He said, “I want to serve. I have come to a point in my life and career that the totality of my experience can be very useful to the younger generation. I want to give back and I want to learn new things too.
“The world is evolving. Change happens really fast and we need to re-engineer the guild. We have to fire it up so it can catch up with the dynamism of the present state of the world.”
He continued “I want a DGN transformed totally from an analogue mindset to a digital one. A DGN that would be a level playing ground for all members, with opportunities for continuous training. I want a guild that presents well-trained and disciplined members who are self confident.
“Since 1992, I have been engaged solely in the industry as a writer, producer, director, actor, production crew member and entrepreneur. I have directed documentaries, TV commercials, TV series and films. I have also taken out time to train in and outside the country. My focus would be on encouraging members’ full participation so that they can be better engaged.”

Yinka Akanbi remained optimistic that the issue of an “all-comers affair” in the industry would soon become a thing of the past.
He said, “All fools can write but not all writers are foolish. It may seem an all-comers affair but it only those who are passionate enough that would stay and thrive. The story is changing. Members will soon be protected from such gate crashers and those who indulge them. Such people don’t play by the rules and that’s enough reason to send them into perpetual irrelevance. There are rules and regulations that would be enforced. However, it must also be told that society has a hand in a lot of the problems plaguing the industry. ‘If fools went not to the market, bad wares would not be sold’”.
