I Cried When Di’Ja Left Mavin Records – Don Jazzy Opens Up

Don Jazzy

Music mogul, Michael Collins Ajereh, better known as Don Jazzy, shared that he cried when Di’Ja left his record label, Mavin Records.

During an interview on the Crea8torium podcast, Don Jazzy said letting Di’Ja leave Mavin Records was the “most difficult decision of my career”.

He explained that the moment was emotional for both of them, and everyone in the room ended up in tears.

He said he now lets other executives at the label handle these decisions because he sees every artist on the label as his child.

“One of the most difficult decisions of my career was when I had to let Di’ja go. That was difficult, and I don’t think I will let any artist go again by myself,” he said.

“Tega and Rima handle that now if they need somebody to leave the label. Everybody on my record label is like a child to me. So, that was hard for both of us.

“And she knew that it was hard for me. She even questioned the guys in the room why they had to involve me in that. All of us started crying. It was hard.”

Born Hadiza Blell, Di’Ja began her music career in 2008 and was signed to Mavin Records in 2014 before later stepping away from the spotlight.

In 2023, the singer clarified that she “never left” the label, explaining that her reduced presence in the music industry was because “life happens”.

“I never left. Kindly know this. Life happens and we are grateful for all the love and happenings. God bless Tems, and I need her to get bigger,” she wrote.
