Nigerian street-pop singer Adekunle Temitope, popularly known as Small Doctor, has revealed that he does not write his songs before recording them, saying most of his music comes naturally to him in the studio.
The singer made this known in a recent interview while addressing criticism that his songs are mostly freestyle and lack meaningful messages.
According to Small Doctor, his creative process is spontaneous, as he prefers to enter the studio and deliver whatever comes to mind rather than prepare written lyrics beforehand.
He said: “I have never written songs. I just go into the studio and say it as it comes. None of my hit songs was written.”
Small Doctor also noted that some of the prominent artistes he has worked with, including Don Jazzy and Olamide, are familiar with his approach to songwriting and have no issue with it.

He maintained that the fact that his lyrics are spontaneous does not mean they are without meaning.
He added: “Artistes that I have worked with like Don Jazzy and Olamide know I don’t write lyrics, and I don’t think they have a problem with that.”
The ‘Penalty’ hitmaker urged listeners to pay closer attention to his music, insisting that his songs often carry messages through street expressions and storytelling.
He said his music is mainly created for the streets, where he has built a strong connection with his audience.
Small Doctor also recalled the challenges he faced early in his career, revealing that he took on small jobs to raise money for recording sessions.
He credited producer Pennywise for believing in him and recording his first song at almost no cost.
