Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker Sunny Ali has opened up about his personal beliefs, revealing why he deliberately avoids producing films centred on witchcraft, miraculous healing or money rituals.
Speaking during a recent interview, the actor said his convictions have shaped the kind of stories he chooses to tell on screen.
According to him, he does not believe in witches, spiritual healers claiming to cure illnesses, or the popular notion of money rituals often portrayed in films.

He said: “I don’t believe in witches, I don’t believe Alfa or pastor can heal sickness, and I don’t believe in money rituals, and that’s why I don’t produce movies in those lines.”
Ali explained that, as a filmmaker, he prefers to create stories that reflect his personal values rather than reinforce beliefs he does not share.
He noted that while supernatural-themed films remain popular with many audiences, he has consciously chosen to avoid such narratives.

For decades, Nollywood has been known for producing movies that explore themes such as witchcraft, traditional spirituality, miraculous healing and ritual practices.
However, these storylines have become a familiar part of the industry’s identity and continue to attract large audiences across Africa and beyond.
Despite the popularity of such productions, Ali insists he has no interest in making films built around concepts he does not believe in.
