Afrobeats star David Adeleke Davido has reflected on the mindset that shaped his early career in a recent interview with Dose of Society.
Looking back on the uncertain years before fame, he said he always believed success would come.
“I just knew it was going to work out. Like, I didn’t know how. All I knew is I had God. I had talent. I knew I was very hardworking. I knew I was ready to have sleepless nights just to get to that pinnacle,” he explained.
Coming from a family that strongly valued formal education, Davido’s decision to pursue music set him apart from his siblings. “All my siblings had gone to school, done the right thing. And I was just feeling like, why did it have to be me?” He left home determined not to return until he had succeeded.

When asked if he ever doubted his path, Davido was clear: “Funny enough, I never doubted myself. I was so confident that it was crazy, like delusional confidence.”
He also spoke about validation. While he once felt pressure to prove himself, the only approval that matters now is his family’s. Seeing them proud of him, he said, is enough. “That validation for me is all I need. I don’t need anybody else’s validation.”
