Nigerian recording artiste, Ms Jorji, has stated that she prefers to be seen as an ‘ashewo’, which translates to being a prostitute.
During a recent episode of the Echo Room Podcast, singer Ms Jorji sparked online reactions after making a series of controversial remarks about promiscuity, relationships, and money in an interview.
During the discussion, Ms Jorji declared, “I love being called a whore. Ashewo. I’m presidential with it. I’m presidential ashewo. Make sure to vote on election day, and vote for the president. Na me be that.”
The host responded by suggesting that she appeared to be describing promiscuity as a form of power, saying, “It sounds to me like you’re saying promiscuity is a power.”
“It is,” the guest replied.
When the host countered, “But that doesn’t sound right,” she questioned the criticism, asking, “How does it not sound right? But it’s ok for men?”
The host responded, “Nobody says it’s okay for men. But I’m saying, for women, is it good?”
The singer went on to reject conventional expectations of womanhood, stating, “I’m not a good woman. I think my life and choices have shown me that I wasn’t built to be a good woman. I was built to be what I am, a bad woman. A bad woman, Horrible, Evil.”
She continued, “I swear to God, I never, never, not one day have I ever woken up and been good.”
Explaining her outlook, she added, “It means I don’t give a shit what anyone has to say. I look at men as a good pair of shoes. Money is the only thing I worship. I’m gonna open my church next year. It’s called Money Congregation.”
She further stated, “The only thing I care about is money. If a man wants to talk to me, he has to spend money,” before adding, “I will never fuck for free. That’s your mom’s job.”
