May Edochie, the estranged wife of popular Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, has opened up for the first time in a heartfelt and emotional account of the immense personal and financial struggles she faced in the wake of her failed marriage.
Speaking during the official launch of her beauty brand in London, the mother of three revealed the devastating toll her marital crisis took on her mental health, business ventures, and financial stability, a burden she silently bore even as her private life was being scrutinized in the public eye.
According to May, the collapse of her marriage in 2022 triggered a domino effect that saw her businesses fall apart one after the other. With loans owed to three different banks and no active source of income, she found herself plunged into a financial crisis that left her emotionally drained and uncertain about the future.
“It was barely a few months after everything started unraveling when my world literally fell apart,” she said. “I watched helplessly as my businesses crumbled before my eyes. Goods in my stores expired, and my sources of income dried up. At the same time, I was dealing with debts from three different banks. The pressure was unbelievable.”
Despite being a public figure and influencer, May said she chose to endure the situation quietly, avoiding pity and refusing to broadcast the full extent of her ordeal on social media. While much of the public was focused on the drama surrounding her estranged husband’s marriage to fellow actress Judy Austin, May was engaged in a silent battle for her survival, physically, emotionally, and financially.
“The banks had been very supportive in the beginning. I had taken those loans to grow my business and expand, but unfortunately, everything I had worked for vanished at once,” she said. “The interest on the loans kept piling up, and there were days I didn’t know where help would come from.”

However, through it all, May said she refused to give up or let the situation define her. According to her, the greatest decision she made was to believe in herself and start again, not out of luxury, but out of necessity.
“I told myself that no matter what, I would not be at the mercy of anyone. I know my strength, I know what I’m made of, and I refused to give in to despair. That’s what has brought me here today,” she added, gesturing toward the banner of her new beauty brand.

May’s story of resilience comes in the aftermath of Yul Edochie’s announcement in 2022 that he had taken a second wife, actress Judy Austin, a move that stirred major controversy in the entertainment industry and deeply fractured his relationship with May. The revelation, which came alongside the unveiling of his new son with Judy, shocked fans and drew widespread backlash, with many sympathizing with May over what they described as a public betrayal.
Since then, May has kept a relatively low profile while gradually rebuilding her life and brand. Her appearance in London marks not only the launch of her new business venture but a symbolic rebirth of a woman who has emerged stronger from personal tragedy.
“Sometimes, life will test you beyond limits you ever imagined, but you have to choose who you become in the fire,” she said to loud applause from the audience at the event.
As she embarks on this new chapter, May Edochie says she is focused on empowering women, inspiring others with her journey, and creating a legacy that her children can be proud of.
