Nollywood star Yvonne Jegede has issued a powerful, emotionally charged call to action, condemning what she describes as a pervasive and dangerous silence surrounding Nigeria’s current security crisis.

In a statement that has gone across social media and media platforms, the acclaimed actress and producer did not mince her words, directly accusing those who are not speaking out of being “complicit with the oppressors.”

Jegede’s address, characterised by its raw honesty, highlights the sheer gravity of the situation, particularly the terrifying and violent realities that many Nigerians face on a daily basis.

Anyone who isn’t talking about the crisis in Nigeria is complicit with the oppressors. What is happening should scare us even more than the government arresting us for speaking out.

”I would rather be in prison than have bandits cut off my head. The silence from Nigerians is a sign of hopelessness and I am not hopeless“. She said.

However, by explicitly stating her preference for imprisonment symbolising loss of freedom and state control over the ultimate, horrific violence of “bandits”.

Jegede is challenging the narrative and urging Nigerians to reclaim their sense of agency.

The actress’s refusal to succumb to hopelessness is a powerful call to find strength.
