IK Osakioduwa, a well-known Nigerian media personality, has explained why he did not host the 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
This is the first time since the awards started in 2013 that he has not hosted the event.
During an appearance on The Morayo Show, IK said he was not absent because of any disagreement with Africa Magic. Instead, he explained that his decision was based on destiny and his personal values.
“This year, I wasn’t destined to host this year. I strongly believe in where God has sent you to be and at the time they sent you to be,” he said.
“Africa Magic will always be my first love when it comes to media. At least with TV, we are in love with each other, they love me and I love them. So, there was no problem there.”
The veteran host explained that the real reason was rooted in his personal values, particularly regarding brand endorsements.
IK said he does not endorse alcohol or tobacco-related brands, which were part of the event’s sponsorship lineup for the 12th edition.

“I have a few principles that didn’t agree with that particular edition,” he said.
“I don’t endorse alcoholic brands or tobacco brands. So I wouldn’t have been able to serve properly in that particular edition.
“I won’t have effectively delivered what they needed.”
In his place, the AMVCA organisers had announced Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma and South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha as hosts of the 12th edition.
