Is Davido Willing to End Superiority Tussle With Burna Boy, Wizkid?

The superiority tussle among Davido, Burna Boy and Wizkid has seemingly reached a new plateau.

The trio, who have put Nigerian and African music on the global landscape have been enmeshed in a never-ending and tiring comparison of who the better artiste is, one that has lingered for too long.

Recall that last year, Davido leader of the 30 Billion Gang had hinted in an interview that there was a plan between Burna and Wizkid to gang up against him.

“I saw a funny picture of Babalawo (spiritualist) with me and Wizkid. Apparently, Burna Boy had commented. ‘Everybody knows you cannot play football but your dad bought the football team’,” he had said.

“I’d never mention his name before. Fem wasn’t about Burna Boy. It was about everyone para-ing (vexed) for no reason, even if I mentioned Odogwu. ‘Tell Odogwu we like to party, just call me’.

“I’m happy you’re up. We’re supposed to be running this together. You are angry that I posted me and Wizkid, but you are with Wizkid in London everyday. If they plan to come together against me it wont work. I am not fighting them. We’re the biggest in the game.

“Why are you fighting me? I’ve never said anything bad about you or discredited you. I answer my problems with music. Forget violence, will you shoot me? Tell me the problem, nobody can.”

But to the surprise of many, Davido joined other celebrities in congratulating Afro beats artistes, Burna Boy and Wizkid for clinching awards at the 2021 Grammys, defeating other international acts.

In the award which took place on Sunday night, Wizkid won his first-ever Grammy award on Sunday for his role in Beyonce‘s Brown Skin Girl while Burna Boy picked the Best Global Music Album award for his 2020 music project, Twice as Tall.

Davido noted that the win was a victory for Nigeria as well as its people and culture.

“Whichever way you look at it, this is a victory for Nigeria for the culture and for my people! Congrats to our winners! Tule Naija! #Grammys #foreverchoke,” he wrote on Twitter.

However it is a delight to know that this week, for a change, Nigerian superstar Davido, is not in the news as a rival of the two winners. This shows that the support from the FEM crooner may disprove the battle line and superiority tussle among the trio.

We hope that the music stars will only strive to continue to transform the perception of their continent, while shaking up the mainstream with their infectious Afrobeats insurgency.
