It’s Unfair To Tag Actresses As Immoral – Jaiye Kuti

Popular actress and producer Jaiye Kuti debunked the notion in certain quarters tagging all women in the entertainment industry as immoral.

Today, being the International Women’s Day, Kuti, while addressing the issue in an interview with Sunday PUNCH kicked against the notion; declaring it as totally unacceptable.

According to her, “a lot of people that came from nowhere all in the name of wanting to be actresses are now there. So, doves have been mixed with chickens.

“Some of these people (that engage in immoral acts) were not even part of us originally. I crossed over from English movies to acting in Yoruba films, yet I still had to go and meet the elders to formally tell them that I wanted to be part of them.”

Speaking further, the actress stated it is unfortunate those with unquestionable character have mixed up with the exemplary ones in the industry; reason why the public now categorise everyone together.

“Even at that, our elders are still doing everything possible to reach those people and talk to them. Efforts are ongoing to sanitise the industry.”

On the toughest role she has ever played in a movie, Kuti said, “I don’t think I have had because most of my jobs are quite challenging. I always find a way to make things easier.”
