Jennifer Lopez signs first look deal with Netflix

Multiple award winning singer and actor, Jennifer Lopez has signed a multi-year first look deal with Netflix.

The deal means Lopez’s Nuyorican Productions will produce a slate of film and television content for the streaming giants. The content, both scripted and unscripted will showcase diverse female actors, writers, and also filmmakers.

Lopez co-runs Nuyorican Productions with her Benny Medina and Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas.

Already, Jennifer Lopez has two feature projects with Netflix in production. The Mother helmed by Mulan director, Niki Caro and The Cipher, based on the Isabel Ojeda Maldonado novel.

About The Mother and The Cipher

The Mother follows a deadly female assassin who comes out of hiding to teach her daughter how to survive. Screenplay by Lovecraft Country’s Misha Green with current revisions by Andrea Berloff.

The Cipher is about FBI Special Agent Nina Guerrera, who finds herself drawn into a serial killer’s case after he strategically posts complex codes and riddles online. The codes correspond to recent murders, designed to lure her into a cat-and-mouse chase.

Speaking on the deal, Netflix’s head of Global films, Scott Stuber said
