Kenya Barris & Eva Longoria teaming up for ‘Brown-ish’ series

American writer, Kenya Barris’ award-winning comedy “Black-ish” was recently renewed for its eighth and final season.  Sources say the writer is in negotiations to develop another series under the “ish” umbrella. Fans are displeased with the possibility of another of these series and have demanded a new plot.

The possibility of another “Black-ish” spinoff sparked interest in the media on Tuesday, May 18. The Emmy-nominated series starring Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross was replaced by Freeform’s “Grown-ish“. It also starred actress Yara Shahidi as Zoe. There was also “Mixed-ish,” which was cancelled after two seasons.

Many people have expressed their displeasure with the prospect of a Brown-ish spinoff in the works. Others have argued that no more Black-ish spinoffs should be made because the Latinx group is not a sphere, and thus the title is debatable.

Meanwhile, many fans remain dissatisfied with Longoria’s involvement. Although she had apologised and explained her comments last November. She had been criticized at the time for being dismissive of Black women.

Brown-ish

ABC president Craig Erwich said in a press conference: “Brown-ish’ is still a concept that is in development. We haven’t rolled out the firm plans around that yet,” he said.

“When we talk about the world of ‘Black-ish,‘ there are so many different iterations that we are open to; it’s really up to Kenya who is the master and the captain of the franchise,” he added.

In the early stages of production or not, critics took to social media to express their fears about the upcoming film. Although a few were receptive to the proposal, the majority showed a strong dislike for it.

“Latinx is not a race, and posing a Latinx family as “brown” only contributes to “mestizaje” narratives that have systemically erased Indigenous, Black and Asian communities in the region,” a fan wrote.
