Popular Hollywood actor and comedian Kevin Hart recently took to social media to celebrate the success of his new film, Fatherhood, and the positive feedback he received as a result. On Kevin Hart’s Fatherhood

Fatherhood, which is available to stream on Netflix, is a dramatic comedy based on Matt Logelin’s 2011 memoir, Two Kisses For Maddy: A Memoir of Loss and Love. Directed by Paul Weitz, the film gets by on its simple narrative. It also has a crackling, well-written script and stellar performances from all parties involved.

Fatherhood successfully captures the spirit of Logelin’s memoir while filtering it through the earnest perspective of the African American experience. It follows Matt (played by Hart), a soon-to-be father who isn’t quite taking the impending birth of his daughter seriously enough. His wife, Liz, (Deborah Ayorinde), faceshealth concerns during the pregnancy and dies shortly after giving birth to their daughter, Maddy. This leaves a reeling Matt to try and deal with his grief and a brand-new baby on his own.

Like most of Hart’s films, Fatherhood leans into a comedic tone even though the memoir is more sentimental. However, the casting decisions widen the story’s perspective about the experiences of birth, maternal mortality and single parenting.
