The Lagos State Government has launched a comprehensive investigation into the tragic death of socialite and influencer Jessica Elena, who reportedly succumbed to severe complications following a second Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) cosmetic procedure.
The probe, announced on Thursday, March 12, 2026, is being led by the Health Facilities Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA), Lagos State’s regulatory body for healthcare facilities.
A statement from HEFAMAA Permanent Secretary Abiola Idowu confirmed the full-scale review, prompted by widespread social media reports and family allegations of negligence.

Jessica Elena, a popular Lagos figure, underwent the revision BBL surgery on February 6, 2026, at Cynosure Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Hospital in Ikoyi. According to her twin sister Nelli’s emotional TikTok posts and family accounts, complications emerged shortly after, including severe pain, infection, and rising white blood cell counts despite antibiotics.
She was transferred multiple times between facilities, including attempts at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), before her passing. Allegations include unsterilised tools, abandonment post-surgery, and high ICU fees.
HEFAMAA emphasised that the clinic is registered but stressed that accreditation does not shield facilities from scrutiny. The investigation will examine compliance with standards on infrastructure, practitioner qualifications, infection control, consent, anaesthesia safety, and emergency protocols. Authorities urged the public to avoid unverified information and choose only accredited providers for cosmetic procedures.
